Description:

Tiger Fly with ashy gray body and red eyes. Average size approxiamately 10-12mm long.

Habitat:

Fennel frond in urban vegetable garden.

That is amazing that you can ID it from the wings! I had someone do that with a bee once.

Hi! Neither Wiki nor EOL has a description of this predatory fly. While trying to i.d., I compared wing veining on Bug Guide. It does range through California, and is found internationally. http://bugguide.net/node/view/518144
