Tiny Cranefly
16.7354, -92.6387
Field Notes
Description:
This little Cranefly flattened itself to the substrate at rest. It was very small, about 5 mm long. You can clearly see the characteristic V-shaped groove on the thorax and the large halters typical of Craneflies. I think I captured the male in the last picture. If so, it is a very unusual male. Family Tipulidae.
Habitat:
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
