Turqoise Shield Bug
Edessa sp.
-2.52, -76.91
Field Notes
Description:
Today, April 21, is World Hemiptera Day. So in keeping with that I’m posting this beautiful Hemiptera, a Shield Bug, also called Stink Bug. This is in the true “Bug” family and is a striking turquoise color with yellow legs and underside. The points of its pronotum are black as are the tips of its wings. The upper parts of its wings are a dark gray with yellow veins.
Habitat:
Photographed at night on a blade of grass on the edge of a village in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador (240 masl).
Notes:
This is very similar to Edessa rufomarginata but the upper wings are a different color so I will have to leave the specific name unknown.
