Field Notes

Description:

Turtle with really sharp claws. Medium-sized.

Habitat:

Ayutthaya near Bangkok is a large town; the old capital of Siam. Now the ruins are tourist attractions. Many functional ancient temples too. There is a water body attached to this temple and locals feed the turtles. I was hoping they would congregate and come up to the land but only one was sunning itself on a wooden platform; I took the photo from above...did not go down the steps as a girl was feeding the pigeons and I did not want to intrude.

Notes:

Please, ID anyone? Is it the Malayan flat-shelled turtle (Notochelys platynota)?
