Field Notes

Description:

This guy landed on my shoe! Rich brown colour with several "dotted" lines that run across the wings. There are two pale, bordered spots that occur on the outermost edge of either wing, one is a kind of bean shape. When the moth spread its wings fully, the hind wings were white (or at least very pale). They generally fly between June and August, but can be seen on into Sept if the second brood is late.

Habitat:

Found in my apartment building, I'm guessing attracted by the light that periodically comes on as people enter and exit the building. Widespread throughout southern England.

Notes:

Came home and found this guy on the floor of my apartment building at around 9:30pm, he flew onto my shoe when I tried to pick him up to put him back outside. So I took a few pics! Sorry they're grainy, used my phone and light was not great. Second pic gives you some scale!
