Field Notes

Description:

This might look offensive but is really intriguing. Initially thought that someone had lost his shoelace to the dog but it turned out to be a single lump of scat about 60 mm x 35 mm. Most of it looked compacted but might have been of a similar shape to the part visible on top - smooth thin ropey coils. (You can just see the coils in the compacted mass in pic 2).
Attached to the mass was a thin crust of white matter (as seen in reptilian and bird faeces). The coils were smooth with no obvious plant or animal material. Pic 1 shows a partial break in one of the coils revealing its moist homogenous texture.
There were no holes in the ground nearby and no moist earth.

Habitat:

Spotted near the base of a tree by a gravel track. This was in a park near a reservoir and creek.

Notes:

The white bit has me totally baffled but the rest too smooth to be reptilian. I have looked through photos of worm, reptile and land crayfish scats but couldn't find any matches. The closest was on a blog from Arizona, and the author assumes it was reptilian<br>

Is this scat at all ??

If anyone can help identify this or give me some direction for an ID, I would love to hear from you. Shanna & Nath, Ashley and Lisa - ? reptilian. Thanks.

I am so intrigued that there are NO obvious plant/animal remains in the scat...will keep looking.
Thanks for looking at this Sukanya and for the link. It's definitely not a hedgehog's. A little too much for a bird, perhaps. Will keep looking.
Very mysterious...this link of any use? Found in garden. https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/identify-this/112483/srange-faeces-in-my-garden
We found a similar scat all the way here in the United States. Did you ever figure it out?
