Field Notes

Description:

Orange spotless ladybug. Thought before that it was Harmonia axyridis, but H. axyridis has white pronotum. Another spotless beetle, Cycloneda munda, has black pronotum. A ladybird from Australia, Chilocorus circumdatus, is bright orange in color but with dark edges on the helmet-shaped wing-covers base. This spotting has orange elytra without black edges and orange pronotum.

Nov 20, 2012 update - found out that this is a form of Coelophora inaequalis, the Variable Ladybird. - http://www.meloidae.com/en/albums/coelophora-inaequalis/.

Habitat:

Spotted in the backyard, amongst the weeds (Struchium sparganophorum).

@Leana and @Noel.. I think I found our mystery ladybird. I found two sites with similar pics: http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxon/id551510/, http://www.meloidae.com/en/albums/coelophora-inaequalis/. It's one of the forms of Coelophora inaequalis, the Variable Ladybird. What do you think?
