Thankyou RobSheddon. I've looked it up online and your very close. Tent Catepillars makes their nests in the nodes and branches, this fits the description of a Webworms nest who is very similar but encloses it's nest around the leaves and end of branches. Unfortunately though according to wikipedia and http://garden.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Webworms these are both native too America. This spotting was taken in southern France. The mystery continues but we're on the right track I think. Any other idea's out there?
Looks similar to a tent caterpillar nest
Any ideas as to what made this people? Discovered near a reservoir in the South of France.
