Field Notes

Description:

Long winged butterfly with yellow and black bands of color. This butterfly feeds on pollen as well as nectar, allowing it to synthesize a toxic compound, making it inedible to predators.

Habitat:

species is distributed across South and Central America but can also be found in Southern Texas and the peninsula of Florida

Notes:

Found at the Oakland Nature Preserve in Oakland, FL
