Find animals in your backyard, or in one of your friend's backyard, or at the park. Observe the animal, ask yourself some questions about the animal, then see if you can answer them.
If you can take a picture of it, please post it. If not, you can post a drawing of the animal. Or you can post a picture of where you saw the animal, or its footprints, or even its poop!
A. Observe the animal and use these questions to think about what the animal is like. If you want to, draw a picture of the animal and take notes in your journal.
What is it doing?
Where is it? (in a tree, by a stream, in a hole, on the grass...)
Is it alone or in a group?
What time of day is it?
What does it look like?
Did it leave footprints? What do they look like?
How many legs does it have?
Does it have wings?
What does its skin look like? Does it have fur, feather, bumps or scales?
Where are its eyes? On the front of its head or the side?
B. Then, see if you can answer these questions.
1. Is it a mammal, bird, fish, reptile or amphibian?
2. Is it nocturnal or diurnal?
3. Is it an herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore?
4. Is it a wild animal or a domesticated animal?
5. Does it live by itself or does it live with a mate, or a family?
6. Is it male or female?
C. If you can't identify the animal, post it here for us to study and guess what it is. If you can identify it, research the animal online or in a book and post something about the animal that you didn't know before and you think is really cool.
