The Chinese Mitten Crab is native to East Asia. It has invaded the Great Lakes, the Gulf Coast, San Francisco Bay, Chesapeake Bay, and the Hudson and Delaware Rivers. They are found in both freshwater and saltwater and have furry claws, a round body with four spins on each side and a notch between the eyes. They have eight sharp tipped walking legs but no swimming legs. This crab is known to have negative ecological and economic impacts. We need your help tracking this crab in the US.

Visit <a href="http://mittencrab.nisbase.org">http://mittencrab.nisbase.org</a&gt; to familiarize yourself with mitten crabs and submit photos and detailed notes of any mitten crab catches or sightings. If possible keep the crab in a freezer for further identification. These are introduced crabs, so please don’t throw then back alive.
