Field Notes

Description:

This is a species new to science known from several localities around the Gulf of Alaska. When I was collecting samples I found these small, pink apothecia on only a few of the individuals; the last time I photographed them I didn't find any.

Habitat:

On a large boulder in a parking lot on Near Island. There are only a couple buildings here and no homes to this small island adjacent to Kodiak.

Notes:

I came back to get samples after taking some photos (https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/341564670) and I sent them off for sequencing to the scientists writing the paper about this soon-to-be described species. They confirmed this as Placopsis scripta.
