Field Notes

Description:

Lichenicolous fungi. It attacks lichens.
Bright pink coralloid sclerotia on dead and dying areas of the host thallus. Widespread, can be common on various lichen species, including Physcia and Parmelia and causes extensive die-back of host lichen.

The attacked lichen seems to be Labothalia radiosa (Hoffm.) Haffelner (chemo subcircinata).

Habitat:

Attacking a crustaceous lichen. Parque Nacional de Monfragüe

Notes:

It is very difficult to distinguish from M. aurantiacus although most probably it is M. corallinus. Microscopy would be needed to confirm it 100% sure
