Description:

Beard lichen is common in western Washington, especially in wetlands and riparian forest. If given enough time it can completely cover up limbs, shrubs and small trees. A pale green to gray fruticose lichen.

Habitat:

Spotted covering the understory shrubs and trees in a riparian forest at the
Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge. The beard lichen was so thick that it was creating its own habitat.
