Field Notes

Description:

Stemonitis is a genus of slime mold characterized by tall, brown sporangia, which grow in clusters on rotting wood

Habitat:

I noticed this fungi growing on a fallen tree along a nature trail in a mixed forest at Bent of the River Audubon. There was a lot of sawdust around the fungi and also many tiny brown beetles (see picture 3, although I didn't get a good shot of them).
