Description:

These lichens are growing all over a big patch in my front yard, alongside a velvety emerald green moss. They grow under the fence that divides yard and pasture. (It's an electric fence, so I think there's something underground that prevents grass from growing in that strip.)

I wondered about cladonia stellaris, but this is NC, not the arctic tundra.
