Field Notes

Description:

This date palm tree was the tallest in my grandfather's house. It was more than 55 years old in this photo. There were more than 500 types of date palm trees in Iraq forty years ago. Each Types gives different type of dates (fruits). After the long wars it is believed that some types have become instinct. There are male palm trees and female palm trees. The female palm trees do not give dates without the Pollen of the male flowers. This palm tree is from the "Zahidi" type.
