Description:
Small pale greyish-white plaques (photobiont) were seen on moist thick bark of a eucalypt. Each of these plaques had a scribbly lead-grey pattern. These long, branched reproductive parts are the apothecia.
Habitat:
Spotted on a eucalypt growing along the coast - Bass Strait/ Snowy River estuary.
Notes:
A large amount of Calcium Oxalate crystals is responsible for the grey colour of the photobiont in this lichen. <br> The branched apothecia are called Lirellae, a characteristic of this type of lichen.<br>
