Field Notes

Description:

A double 'Other' spotting. These black slugs are not supposed to be in this country and are native to Europe. First reported ten years ago we now see them often at this location despite the record droughts since. About 40mm long but able to compress and extend enormously (this one is contracted). It is scraping away at an old patch of Fuligo septica (myxomycota or 'slime mold') which was on a big pile of woodchips.

Habitat:

Moist woodland, domestic gardens.
