Field Notes

Description:

Cladonia fimbriata is a cup lichen distinguished by tall podetia that resemble trumpets, cups, or golf-tees.
Podetia is grey-green color, with cups (scyphi) abruptly expanded from the long, cylindrical stems, with finely granular soredia on the outer surface and interior of the cup, minute brown pycnidia often on the cup margins; apothecia brown on margins of rather distorted cups, uncommon .

Habitat:

It is widespread and common on soil and rotting wood. I have found it growing on some rotting wood.
