Field Notes

Description:

Gross. That's the description. Okay, you want more? Well it starts off bright yellow, then gets orange edges and turns more brown as it matures over a few days and releases the brown spores. It looks just like a dog came and puked in the garden. Except it's alive and, worst of all, is capable of moving! It's actually not a fungus but a slime mold.

Habitat:

This one is in my garden, which has a lot of wood chip mulch. Decaying wood, forest floor, pine needles, etc. are its habitats. It eats bacteria.
