Field Notes

Description:

A beautiful, slim snake that has yellow stripes down the sides and an orange dorsal stripe (hence the name, orange-striped). Also note the two yellow spots on the head. This one was a juvenile and they get bigger than this. Found swimming in some water (3rd and 5th pics), was caught for pictures and closer examination, then released. It was found less than a foot away from a Blanchard's cricket frog.

Habitat:

A small unmoving stream of water that trails away from a swampy, also unmoving, small body of water.

Thanks Samantha! Mr. Goodwin: It seems like a great spot for some of those water-loving snakes!
Jack, I've been back to this site twice in the last three days and have seen multiple ribbons there each time. They seem to be abundant at that pool of water.
Thank you both! This was actually my first ribbon snake!
