The American Southwest: Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Utah - is home to a great diversity of snakes adapted to the harsh conditions of the desert. Unfortunately snakes are one of the most feared and reviled groups of animals on the planet. However, snakes serve many important functions in all ecosystems they are found, playing key roles as both predator and prey. By documenting the diversity and beauty of these legless reptiles, we can hope to encourage people to promote conservation, respect, and even love of snakes.

Post photographs of native snakes found in the Southwest, including Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Utah. Please include a habitat description and time of day of your encounter. Mission for free-living snakes in their natural habitat only.
