Field Notes

Description:

Rare and endangered leafless vanilla orchid. One of the most beautiful wild orchids I have ever encountered. I can say this has been one of the most difficult ones to capture since we had to take a kayak to catch them in bloom. Also, you have to donate plenty of blood to mosquitos and stand among alligator infested waters in order to get to them. However, as you can see, it was definitely worth it!

Habitat:

Found in coastal areas of South Florida within the mangrove forest.
