Field Notes

Description:

Grows on exposed granite rock. Foliose pale yellowish-green to dull yellow gray lobes with abundant, pale pink to dark orange disks.

Notes:

In the book "Lichens of the North Woods" by Joe Walewski, in his nature notes: Ever been called a "tree hugger" or a "posie sniffer?" Go for it! Sniff the Orange-posy. It doesn't smell like anything, but when you get close enough to be a posy sniffer, you'll no doubt see many other lichens and details unobserved by the crowd of people laughing behind your back.
