Field Notes

Description:

A large "dog lichen" that exhibits a foliose growth pattern. Can be common locally. The fang-like features are rhizines.

Habitat:

Spotted in the West Hylebos wetland on a moss covered log.

For sure, it is fun and challenging. I think I spent two hours this morning trying to ID the weevil wasp I posted. I didn't have a clue when I first started - other than I thought it might be a wasp. But it wasn't fitting in any model I looked at.
I agree about them being difficult to identify! I, too, have a lot of photos backed up that need ID'ing. It is a fun process, isn't it?!
Thanks for commenting flowntheloop. I took so many pics of lichens earlier in the year that it's taking me awhile to research and post them. Some of the species differences are so subtle.
