Field Notes

Description:

This is a crustose lichen that has colonized a rock face. It has a copper-colored center. Several of the bullseye lichens were surrounded by little clumps of moss.

Habitat:

Found in a montane forest on the Ross Dam Trail in North Cascades National Park.

Notes:

Placopsis gelida is classified as a symbiotroph because it's a fungus that grows mutualistically with an alga.
