Field Notes

Description:

A bright yellowish orange powdery appearance. Chrysothrix candelaris lacks apothecia, soredia and isidia, so it does not reproduce by spores. Instead it spreads by its thallus becoming distributed by the wind, the feet of animals, etc. to suitable habitats.

Habitat:

Spotted on an injured part of a large Myrtle oak tree.

Notes:

This lichen can be used as an indicator for the air quality.
