Maria The only known function that I am aware of is that the flowers were used to create a color dye for paint. The Afrikaans common name is "verf blommetjies" or "paint flowers". Don't know if it is used in any food dishes. Butterflies seem to enjoy them as I have photographed many species feeding on the flowers. Apparantly the main pollinators are moths at night.
Beautiful plant and spotting. How is the herb used?
Too bad... my trip is scheduled for December.
Oh, they look like cartoon dog-bones! Great one Fanie :D
