Field Notes

Description:

Coming out of winter, I'm still in my newly found lichen-mode... This one was a very large thallus, almost completely covering that wooden post. Lobes are densely packed, about 3-4mm wide, pale grey above and brown beneath. Tips are turned up and sorediate (details can be seen well in pics N°s 1-3).

Habitat:

I found these on wooden hence posts along a myriade of other lichens; a hence surrounding an agricultural storage yard, just next to a protected montane stream in Jura mountain range; on edges of mixed (oak, beech, spruce and fir) forest growing on slopes.
