Field Notes

Description:

I think the black spots are where the soredia develop, which you can see side-by-side with the developed soredia in photo 3.

Habitat:

Growing on a wooden dock in the harbor near to Parmelia, Ramalina, and I'm not 100% sure on the yellow lichen.

Notes:

The primary photobiont (photosynthesizing partner) of this lichen is Trebouxia, a green alga. The primary fungal partner is what the lichen takes its name after. A lichen is a composite organism consisting of one or more photobionts and one or more fungal species.
