Field Notes

Description:

Conchs are a type of sea snail, and are also a popular seafood in some areas.

Habitat:

Shallow waters off small tropical caye near Belize Barrier Reef.

Notes:

These are shells of conch that have been harvested, then the shells dropped back into the sea.

Fossils indicated that the conch first appeared about sixty-five million years ago. Evidence shows the shell was used 3,000 years ago for cooking pots, chisels, knives, scrapers, hooks, earrings, buttons and pendants.

We went snorkling, but it wasn't our best snorkling destination.
Exactly. We were no sooner back then my husband was talking of a return trip. Can't beat the snorkeling and diving. Haven't gotten to those photos yet. They're on a different camera.
So did we. Great way to remove a couple weeks of winter from one's experience
It is a place well worth going back to. We had a great time.
I happened upon a few of your pictures. We were in Belize last year and you brought back great memories.
