The largest of the Nymphaeaceae family of water lilies.

Habitat:

Amazon basin, oxbow lakes and bayous

Notes:

spotted this on a 10 day trek in the Brazilian Amazon, near Manaus. It was raining hard when we finally got to it and it was really muddy but I wasn't going to let that stop me. I stopped trying to keep my feet dry and tried to get close to take a better picture of the flowers but as I stepped onto the grass featured in the third photo, I sunk up to my knees! that was as close as I was going to get!

That cool. You've been in Brazil. Never went to amazon.
It must be fantastic to see them in their habitat! Beautiful.
thanks. next time I'll see if they can hold me! hahaha!
I've seen pics of kids floating in Victorias...perhaps you should have stepped aboard! They are so cool. Nice pictures.
