Field Notes

Description:

This is likely a hybrid between Mallard and Mottled Duck. Any thoughts?

Habitat:

Retention pond behind a mall

Notes:

There was only one duckling...so, either it is brand new, or all the siblings were taken by predators.

Alice that pond was full of turtles...as you can see in the last pic...he is fast!
It is fascinating that you found him again. Maybe there are no turtles in that pond. I assume you have not gotten away yet? Safe Journey!
I went back to the pond and found the cute little duckling is growing up. The last 2 pics are an update. More of a teenager now, I think.
ceherzog...your pics of the ducklings - this one & the ones with the koi are phenomenal! I love them! :)
Thanks Alice. I couldn't believe it as I was watching him swim and he just popped up on that lily pad and sat there. I felt like it was my lucky day! It's nice to have Project Noah as a venue to share these precious sightings.
Look under Missions at Earth week. Last day at midnight on Friday this week. You can submit as many as you want.
