Field Notes

Description:

Black bird with yelllow eyes. The male (pictured) has a blue sheen to his feathers, while the females are brown and smaller.

Habitat:

They range from the western United States down through northern Peru.

Notes:

Its calls are very loud. At first, it's pretty neat and you're all "Wow, this bird has quite the repertoire!" But after a while, you say "Wow, this bird is so annoying!" Or at least, that is my experience.

Yeah, it's impressive. I can respect that, though I don't enjoy it!
That's exactly it, Shelley! Thanks so much! I've seen these birds all over Costa Rica, both male and female, the descriptions match up exactly. Especially about the noise, they are loud birds and get on my nerves. The males are quite pretty when you see their blue sheen, at least.
Do they have a species of Grackle down there?
