Field Notes

Description:

Long legs, dark feathers on the top of its body, white feathers underneath. Long neck, narrow sharp beak, with a splash of yellow in a sideways-V shape before the beak, surrounding the eye.

Habitat:

Near an estuary

Notes:

Ranges from the southern United States down to Brazil and Peru. Hunts for prey in shallow waters.
