blue #23: This species is similar to the American beech but has a darker gray bark. It grows up to 60 feet tall and 45 feet wide. This particular tree is the largest European beech on campus.

Unfortunately this tree was removed in 2012. It sustained quite a bit of storm damage and was considered hazardous.
