Field Notes

Description:

Body silvery red, with orangish gold body stripes. Eyes large. Rear dorsal fin pronounced and sticking up. Anal fin with a strongly elongated third spine.
Size up to 18 cm.
Juveniles are thin, silvery pelagics and seldom seen.

Habitat:
Hide in or near dark recesses. Rare on shallow reefs, becoming more abundant with depth, most abundant between 30 and 70 m.
