Field Notes

Description:

Juvenile form exhibits white body with thick black stripes, thin yellow stripes, black blotch at base of caudal peduncle, and yellow edge to dorsal, ventral, anal, and caudal fins. Yellow stripes below lateral line are diagonally oriented.

Habitat:

Seal Cay, Belize

Notes:

The sounds they make when grinding their teeth earned them their common name. They use their swim bladders to amplify this sound.
