Field Notes

Description:

Crustose lichen; gray. Apothecia, raised from the thallus as a elongated, narrow (lirellate) structure; oblong, flexuous and branched, 1-3 x 0.2-0.4 mm; disk narrow to wide and open, dark gray; well developed margin.

Habitat:

Lichen growing on American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) on east-facing slope above lake shore.
