Sandhill Crane

I have a lead on this bird near my house in Ohio. I am planning on chasing it this weekend. Great spot and nice photo.

I think the warm temperatures and low snow levels are permitting Sandhills to winter further north than usual. Not too far from you, in northwest Indiana, is the Jasper-Pulaski State Wildlife Area. This used to be a fall staging ground for migrating sandhills--most of of the Midwest's cranes stopped here for several weeks before flying on to wintering areas in Florida--but many apparently winter there now while others continue to stage. Was just wondering if that is being repeated further north as the climate seems to be moderating. Thanks for getting back to me.

David, As of a few weeks ago it sounded like there were a thousand or more sandhills apparently over-wintering in the Portage, WI area. Do you know if they are still there?
