Field Notes

Description:

From above, the thallus is a very dark, greenish-gray, but once you turn it over you can see the white underside with light brown apothecia. The lobes are often overlapping and close together. Overall, a fairly small lichen compared to other more common foliose lichens. I usually only find these after a windy day, and usually attached to spruce twigs.

Habitat:

I found them on the ground, but likely fell from high up in the trees. Above were some very tall Sitka Spruce trees. Rural neighborhood

Cool find Machi! Spruce trees can offer some interesting lichens.
