Field Notes

Description:

Deep grey coloured foliose lichen with large lobed thalli. The surface of the thalli appeared rough and margins were wavy. The underside of the thalli was a paler grey.
This clump of lichen was seen growing amongst moss on a tree stump

Notes:

The internal structures of this lichen is said to be made up of loosely woven cyanobacteria (Nostoc) and fungal hyphae.
