Field Notes

Description:

Hard to identify. Probably Tephromela atra in an early state of colonization.
Thallus crustose, pale grey, cracked-areolate and warted, looking much like fossilised porridge; apothecia conspicuous and usually abundant, disks black, rims grey-white and crenulate, hymenium with purplish colours in section.

Habitat:

Usually on siliceous rock in very illuminated places.
This one on a granite wall.
