Description:

An interesting script lichen whose apothecia generally grow somewhat parallel to the wood grains of rotting wood (rarely on bark).

Habitat:

Spotted on driftwood at Point No Point County Park.

Thank you so much Lauren. Lichens have certainly become a deep passion for me. The first question I asked myself when I first started studying them is how could something so simple become so complicated. When fungi, algae, or cyanobacteria merge and evolve into a more complex organism of which there are about 20,000 species. I guess if there was only 20 species they wouldn't have the same appeal. I absolutely enjoy all your spotting as well. Your combination of knowledge/research and incredible photography is so inspiring!!
