Description:
Looks like a Cratosomus vaginalis, but I'm not sure. About 3 cm long, light brown in color with ridges going lengthwise down the back and raised black spots all over. It has a longish snout; I though snout beetle but see it is called a weevil if my guess is right. I would appreciate help in nailing this one down.
Habitat:
This was found @05:00 on the rail of our house in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.
Notes:
This "interesting" arthropod collapsed as soon as I touched it (photo 3). It took a while to "revive" after which time it crawled onto my finger and was okay again. Whew! :-) One of the strangest insects I've found. I'd like to have a confirmed ID.
