Field Notes

Description:

This is a small leaf beetle that has a reddish brown head, pronotum and the femur on each leg. The rest of the leg as well as the elytra, antenna and eyes are dark black. The antenna are moniliform (bead-like) https://wiki.bugwood.org/Coleoptera.

Habitat:

Found on an orchid leaf in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador (700 masl).

Notes:

I have never seen any holes in these leaves so no doubt the orchid was just a resting place. They are seen on other plants with less fibrous leaves.

Yes. I was thinking they were a match at first but think the pronotum on mine is a little flatter where yours is rounded and I can't see any reddish brown on yours' femurs. One would think they have to be cousins thougn. Thanks Mark.
