Field Notes

Description:

Forms tiny buttons, dark brown or black, 2 to 5 mm in diameter, on bark of living or decaying trees; sometimes the thallus is absent, sometimes present in form of grey to pale green veil (visible on Photo 4).

Habitat:

Observed on many living trees or decaying logs and branches in a deciduous tree forest, mainly oaks. Montane environment, valley in between the Jura Mountain and lake Geneva (Leman); forest on the French-Swiss border.
